Happy Holidays

National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women: December 6 2009 marks the 20 anniversary of the Montreal Masacre. Twenty years ago a tragedy unfoldeded at l’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal when a man murdered 14 female engineering students because they were women in a nontraditional field.

Important Dates in December World AIDS Day: December 1 World AIDS Day is intended to bring attention to the danger AIDS poses to humanity and the extent to which it has spread across the planet. On this day, people of the United Nations are called upon to show solidarity, support and sympathy for the many victims of AIDS worldwide. Please visit the United Nations Association of Canada for more info.
This day promotes the understanding of disability issues and mobilizes support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. The UN website has more information. The National Union of Public and General Employees has called on the Government of Canada to ratify the UN Conventionon the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. nupge Volunteer Day: December 5 Since 1985, the UN has recognized this day as Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development. In 2011, Women's Worlds will illuminate Canada The 11th Women's Worlds congress- an international and interdiscipilinary gathering of and about women- will take place July 3rd - 7th, 2011 in Ottawa-Gatineau, Canada.
