    About PACSW:

Overview

Simply put, the goal of the Advisory Council is to help advance women’s equality.

We are an arms-length organization governed by the Status of Women Advisory Council Act. The Advisory Council was created in 1980 by the Provincial Government of the day.

The Advisory Council and many other women’s groups in the province grew out of a strong and passionate women’s movement which identified many barriers and inequalities in our society. Many of those inequalities still exist; some are more subtle while others are quite obvious.

We work with other women’s organizations and equality-seeking groups for the common goal of making society more just and equitable for women. We regularly advise the Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, cabinet ministers and politicians on how policies and legislation affect women.

The 11 members of the Advisory Council are appointed by Government for three-year terms. The women live in different regions of the province and bring a wide range of experience, knowledge and life experience to our work. We constantly work to deepen our knowledge and understanding of how all women are affected by the inequalities in our society.

The Advisory Council advises, advocates, lobbies, analyzes, educates and promotes awareness of women’s inequality. Some of the women’s issues we are involved with are: violence, poverty, access to justice, housing, child care & early learning, health care, leadership, and maternity & parental benefits. We also do our best to respond to the “hot issues” that come up throughout the year.

We are also a member of the Coalition of Provincial Territorial Advisory Councils on the Status of Women, which keeps us connected across the country.

The day-to-day work of the Advisory Council is carried out by the President, Office Manager, Policy Analyst and Communications Director.

You’ll find all the ways to reach us on the Contact Us page.
