Women work hard to make our communities better, to take care of the people around them and to excel at whatever they do, despite obstacles. But often their accomplishments aren't recognized. We can change that. Below is a list of awards and links to applications and websites. Let's get the ball rolling. The Governor General’s Awards Each year, hundreds of Canadians, from community volunteers to astronauts to actors to scholars, earn our applause and gratitude. The Governor General presents honours and awards on behalf of all Canadians to recognize those people who have demonstrated excellence, courage or exceptional dedication to service in ways that bring special credit to this country. Among them: Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is the highest honour of the province. The object of the Order is to recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner Newfoundland and Labrador and its residents. More... The Persons Award Like so much of the history of women in Canada, the Persons Case was forgotten for 50 years. In 1979, on the 50th anniversary of the Privy Council's historic decision, the Government of Canada instituted the Governor General's Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case to recognize outstanding contributions to the quality of life of women in Canada. The Awards are presented annually at a ceremony in October. More... Flare Volunteer Awards The Flare Volunteer Awards are presented each year to six outstanding Canadian female volunteers aged 18 and up whose volunteer achievements have made a difference to the lives of the people in their communities. More... Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame The
Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Hall of Fame
is designed to
recognize, honour and pay tribute to all individuals, groups,
associations, families or teams on the basis of playing ability,
sportsmanship and character and who have achieved extra-ordinary
distinction in any sport, whether that distinction be achieved in
amateur and/or professional athletics. More... |
